FABELHAFT

Using part of an old illustration for my coffee shop zine from university last year, text lyrics from Kraftwerk's "Das Modell / The Model".

I wanted to create something mainly black and white in the end after playing around with Photoshop on another piece; something not too fussy. I decided to add one colour (red) with the hard brush as a circle of rouge to implicate it's make-up or on a model's, or woman's cheek.

Developed even more typographic posters after class today.
This time with lyrics from "Baby, Du Siehst Gut Aus!" by Bakkushan and "Einmal um die Welt" by Cro.

Third version with grunge texture
(Leading on the first poster could do with a bit of work)

Second version with paper texture

RESPONSE TO MUSIC

In class today creating album covers for bands that we like.

Things we were urged to include: mood, texture, experience and atmosphere of the music; can respond to lyrics and themes, narratives contained in the music; could include fashions of the times or a political/social message.

Questions we were asked to possibly include in the creation process: why do you feel passionate about their music? (reflect your experience)

Answer: I love the style and tone of both Billy Talent and Alkaline Trio's music, found it a bit hard to push aside remaking a cover when there are already awesome covers to these two albums.

I wanted to create two albums that I could link visual language to such as "addiction" to pills and "dead" to a crucifix.

Compiled in Photoshop CS6
2, 3 & 4 are final versions
1-3 Alkaline Trio "This Addiction" album (2010)
Grunge texture, syringe vector, prescription pill image, banner vector and Alk3 logo (completely rendered in Adobe Illustrator using pen tool)
4. Billy Talent "Dead Silence" album (2012)
Grunge texture, text and cross rendered in Adobe Illustrator, halftone brushes and mask layer

"THE GREAT FACE RACE"

A small project from Uni a week ago. Take a massive A0 portrait of yourself and draw on it by hand stuff personal to you that connects the audience with who you are.
Handdrawn first; digital version last (completed in Photoshop).

I used one of my own works in the digital version ("HAMSA") to just sort of cover the background.

MOSCOW: REVISITED

Not literally.
Playing about in Photoshop waiting for my lecturer to arrive and remembered I had an old sketch of Russia I never did anything with. Did a couple of variants (text and halftone edges) but overall a pretty good experiment to unwind with.

Watercolour paper and brown paper textures

VARIANT COVERS

Different front cover designs, top two inspired by The Losers.
Went a bit over board making some variant front cover designs this past week.
